Giddy For Grasses

Giddy For Grasses

Beyond our cultural obsession with mowing lawns, grasses receive surprisingly little attention in citizen science and nature photography. Lacking vibrant colors or showy flowers, they often fade into the background. Yet grasses are ecological marvels, shaping landscapes and sustaining life across the planet.

When I head out on a hike, I make a point of noticing at least one grass I’ve never recorded before and adding it to my iNaturalist observations. It’s a small shift in attention that often leads to big discoveries. I invite you to try the same—slow down, look closer, and let a grass catch your eye.

This editorial series invites you to appreciate the grasses growing all around you.
